Ellen and Ryan McGinnis of the University of Vermont were among a team researchers who found that a wearable sensor was able to detect hidden anxiety and depression in young children given a mood induction task with 81 percent accuracy in 20 seconds. Clinicians evaluating video evidence would take months to reach a diagnosis. The findings open the door to inexpensive screening that could be part of routine developmental assessments.
