Treating senescent cells with an FDA-approved HDAC inhibitor (HDACi) decreased cytoplasmic chromatin (white arrows)—a mix of DNA and protein that is normally found in the cell nucleus (blue circle). The DNA (blue) in these clusters is often damaged (green). The authors also showed that the drug reduced senescence-associated inflammation in mice.
