Doctoral student Mawuli Macdonald of the SDSU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry determines whether the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, in the drinking water sample have been successfully detected. The goal is to develop a field device that can detect these potentially harmful chemicals in water, sediment and soil.
