Palcaraju Glacier (summit of 6,274 meters, or 20,584 feet) as seen from the west in 1975. The glacier, on the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in western Peru, has been shrinking as the surrounding region has warmed.
Lake Palcacocha and Palcaraju Glacier lie above the city of Huaraz, where 120,000 residents face increased flood risks as the glacier recedes and the lake grows bigger.
