Newswise — The Morgridge Institute for Research will broadcast a free webinar on November 9, featuring a conversation with experts on the front lines of pediatric vaccine development and public health.
The webinar, titled “Exploring COVID-19 vaccines for kids,” is the sixth installment of the Fearless Science Speaker Series.
Speakers include:
- James Conway, co-principal investigator of Moderna KidCOVE COVID-19 vaccine study, professor of pediatrics at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, and medical director of UW Health Immunization program
- William Hartman, co-principal investigator of Moderna KidCOVE COVID-19 vaccine study and assistant professor of anesthesiology at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health
- Jasmine Zapata, chief medical officer and state epidemiologist at the Bureau of Community Health Promotion, Division of Public Health at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
These experts will offer an update on the vaccine clinical trials for children 5-11, where we stand on vaccines for kids under 5, and the general state of the public health effort to combat the pandemic.
“The trials demonstrate that the vaccines are safe and effective in children. The vaccine is identical to the one given to adults, just a smaller dose,” says Dr. Hartman. “Getting our children vaccinated against COVID-19 is the next important step in protecting our communities.”
The webinar will also include discussion surrounding the latest information on vaccine boosters, vaccine hesitancy, and COVID-19 treatment.
