New Open-Access, Peer-Reviewed, Video Journal: Neurosurgical Focus: Video

Newswise — Charlottesville, June 27, 2019. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and its scholarly publication division, the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG), are proud to announce the addition of a new, open-access, scholarly video journal: Neurosurgical Focus: Video. The inaugural issue will be posted online on July 1, 2019, on the JNSPG website: www.thejns.org.

In 2012, our journal Neurosurgical Focus began publishing video supplements on operative techniques twice a year.  Since that time, viewer interest in the educational video format has grown enormously and so, too, has the number of submissions. We saw the need for an enhanced platform and are pleased to present Neurosurgical Focus: Video as an independent, Web-based, open-access, quarterly journal.

Video offers a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the following themes of surgical intervention:

  • Operative Anatomy
  • Surgical Technique
  • Novel or Enhanced Surgical Approaches
  • Surgical Complications
  • New Technology and Instrumentation

Like Neurosurgical Focus and the earlier supplements, Neurosurgical Focus: Video will cover a different topic with each issue. The first issue covers Resection of Cavernous Malformations. Upcoming topics include Surgery of the Brainstem, Spinal Deformity Surgery, and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery.

We encourage you to view the 29 new operative videos in the July issue. And we look forward to receiving new video submissions for future topics.

In addition to the new, open-access Neurosurgical Focus: Video, the JNSPG publishes four other peer-reviewed journals; these are published monthly. This year we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Journal of Neurosurgery, recognized by neurosurgeons and other medical specialists the world over for its authoritative clinical articles, cutting-edge laboratory research papers, renowned case reports, expert technical notes, and more. The other journals include Neurosurgical Focus, an online-only, freely accessible journal covering a different neurosurgery-related topic in depth each month; the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, focused on neurosurgical approaches to treatment of diseases and disorders of the spine; and the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, covering treatment of diseases and disorders of the central nervous system and spine in children. All five journals can be accessed at www.thejns.org.
