PORTLAND, OR (September 7, 2001) -- The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) announced today that it is accepting applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship for an early-career researcher in the field of psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis genetics.
The NPF award will be $35,000 per year, not to exceed $70,000 for two years. The fellowship must be used in direct support of an early-career researcher working in genetics and will be funded for a period beginning February 1, 2002, and ending January 31, 2004.
"This is a critical time in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis research, a time when the right resources directed in the right places will move this research forward," says Gail M. Zimmerman, NPF president and CEO. "We are thrilled to offer these significant new research grants and intend to continue to offer such grants each year."
Applicants should be working actively in areas related to psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis in a laboratory dedicated and committed to psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis research. The funds may be used for support of new or ongoing research/clinical investigation in psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis genetics. Any indirect costs to the sponsoring institution are not included. The eligibility requirements include progress reports during and at the end of the grant period.
The deadline for applications is October 26, 2001, and awardees will be notified by January 30, 2002. Applications are available on the NPF Web site: http://www.psoriasis.org/postdoc2002.htm.
All applications are subject to peer review by the NPF's Scientific Review Committee. The committee members do not participate in evaluation of applications from institutions with which they are associated or applications in which there is a real or apparent conflict of interest.
Since its origination in 1968, the NPF has awarded more than 50 pre- and postdoctoral research fellowships and 35 grants for sums totaling nearly $2.5 million.
