One-day biotech mini-course offers behind-the-scenes look at industry

Newswise — A one-day biotechnology mini-course, presented by the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) and Keck Graduate Institute (KGI), offers a quick peek into this burgeoning industry for those seeking new career pathways. The course will be held Friday, December 6 (the day before the 2019 ASCB|EMBO Meeting) at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, 1201 Maryland Ave. SW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20024.

The one-day course runs from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Registration is $125 and is open to U.S. and international students and postdocs, and all others interested in transitioning to a career in industry. You do not have to register for the 2019 ASCB|EMBO Meeting to attend the one-day biotech mini-course. To register and for more details go to https://www.ascb.org/career-development/biotech-minicourse/

The goal of the one-day course is to help students become more acquainted with career pathways in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. The course uses a case study format. Students will:

  • receive an introduction to the processes by which scientific discoveries are translated into bioscience ventures
  • have a chance to network with representatives from local biotech companies
  • get tips on how to leverage their current scientific, business, and social skills to become business-ready
  • get help building a resume, dissecting job postings, and landing job interviews

Meeting registration is nontransferable and nonrefundable after November 15, 2019.

Please note: This may be the last time ASCB and KGI offer the one-day version of this course. A more content-rich, week-long course on transitioning to biotechnology is offered on both the west and east coasts during the summer. Visit this website for more information about that professional development opportunity. https://www.ascb.org/career-development/biotech-course/
