A new whitepaper authored by experts on active shooter detection systems details the February 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, with analysis of how automated, rapid-response technology may have changed the course of events which lead to more than 30 wounded or dead students and faculty.

The paper includes a comparison of the actual timeline of the shooting with a theoretical timeline, had shooter detection technology been in place. This analysis demonstrates the capabilities of automated systems to detect gunshots, secure a facility, alert emergency responders, and issue mass-notification of a threat, all within a fraction of the time it takes for human response.

“By connecting intelligence gathering technology, detection technology, deter & delay technology, mass notification technology and responder engagement we can be extremely effective at reducing the event timeline to near or at zero,” the authors conclude.
