Newswise — Charles E. Walcott, Virginia Tech professor of political science, can provide background on the presidential transition process, presidential appointments, George W. Bush's legacy, and the organization and operation of the presidency.

Walcott is president of the Presidency Research Group, an arm of the American Political Science Association, and a member of the White House Transition Project advisory board. Since 1997, the transition project has provided non-partisan strategies and analysis of transitions to the president-elect and the rest of his team.

Since 2001, he has been the editor of "Congress and the Presidency," an interdisciplinary journal of research in political science and history. Walcott recently co-authored an essay for the Oxford Handbook of the American Presidency titled "Presidential Decision-Making: The Impact of Organization and Style."

He also is author of "White House World: Transitions, Organization and Office Operations" and co-author of several essays on the George W. Bush White House staff and cabinet, Walcott is one of the authors of a forthcoming book on the Bush White House.

The White House Transition Project, funded initially by the Pew Charitable Trust, is the institutional memory for the White House and provides perspective on past transitions and analysis of past and current advisory appointments and responsibilities.
