The Radiologist as Direct Public Educator: Impact of Sessions Demystifying Select Cancer Screening Imaging ExaminationsAndrew B. Rosenkrantz, MD, MPA, Derek Mason, MD, Nathan M. Kunzler, BS, Jiyon Lee, MDCognitive and psychological factors can both contribute to underutilization of some cancer screening exams. In this study, the authors initiated radiologist-led direct public education on imaging-based screening examinations for three primary cancer types; breast, prostate and lung. Survey results indicated that attendees’ awareness of the radiologist’s role in diagnosis and treatment, as well as understanding of the importance of certain screening exams improved following the educational session.
