Research Alert

Choice screen auctions give consumers the ability to select their preferred search engine on Android, rather than being defaulted right to Google's platform. In this research, Michael Ostrovsky, Fred H. Merrill Professor of Economics at Stanford Graduate School of Business, examines choice screen auction implementation and a specific detail within auction design that has potential to influence winners and subsequent market share. Recently rolled out in Europe, evidence from these auctions across 31 countries is consistent with Ostrovsky's theoretical findings.
