Newswise — The University Research Park at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will host executives from research, science and tech parks around the world this September for the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) International Conference.

“Research parks are key drivers in creating jobs and economic growth for communities worldwide,” said Kevin Byrne, AURP President. “The University Research Park at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an economic engine for Madison, creating quality, high-paying jobs throughout the region.”

The University Research Park contributes more than $825 million to Wisconsin’s economy each year, according to a study conducted by NorthStar Economics Inc., of Madison. The study also found that the park supports nearly 9,300 jobs statewide, and generates $43 million in state and local tax revenue each year.

AURP selected the University Research Park, a recognized leader in the research park field, as host of the 2012 International Conference because of its continued success in creating high-wage jobs, said Byrne.

The conference will focus on Accelerating Job Creation. Park executives will tour University Research Park and the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery to see first hand how they’ve created a successful community of innovation.

"We look forward to welcoming AURP and the world's research park executives to Madison," said Greg Hyer, Associate Director of the University Research Park at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “Conference attendees will have an opportunity to learn about great emerging and established science and technology companies supported by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s research and technology transfer programs. Madison, recognized as one of the 'top 10 places for jobs' and among the 'top 12 places to live and work as a young entrepreneur,' is a great place to visit in September.”
