New Brunswick, N.J. (May 23, 2019) – Maren Greathouse, an LGBTQ expert at Rutgers, is available to discuss the significance of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan and the impact this decision may have around the globe.

“We celebrate the victory of Taiwan’s LGBTQ activists in securing marriage equality for same-sex couples,” said Greathouse, director of the Tyler Clementi Center at Rutgers–New Brunswick, which examines the impact of bias, peer aggression and campus climate on students with marginalized and/or stigmatized identities. “These rights are essential to securing property rights, employment benefits and government-sanctioned activities such as immigration. And Taiwan proves that change is possible — that the cultural values and histories of our communities do not need to be at odds with our sexual and gender identities.”

Greathouse can be reached via email at [email protected].
