New Brunswick, N.J. (Jan. 8, 2020) – Rutgers University–New Brunswick Professor David A. Robinson is available for interviews on New Jersey’s weather and climate in 2019, including the Office of the New Jersey State Climatologist’s list of top 10 events. Robinson can also discuss the December 2019 climate and weather.

“The Garden State has interesting, extreme and impactful weather and climate events each year and 2019 was no exception, with an uncommon number of tornadoes, frequent windy events, localized deluges of rain and unusual temperature extremes,” said Robinson, the New Jersey State Climatologist and a distinguished professor in the Department of Geography in the School of Arts and Sciences. “These events played out in a year of overall excessive warmth (the 10th warmest in the past 125 years) and wetness (17th wettest) – conditions commonly experienced this century and associated with human-induced climate change.”

The top 10 list of weather and climate events in 2019 includes:
- The 10th warmest year since record-keeping began in 1895.
- The second most tornadoes on record.
- The 17th wettest year on record.
- Windy weather.
- Southwest flooding.
- A short fall.
- The late July heat wave and back-breaking squall line. - The early fall flash drought.
- Stafford Township deluges.
- A snowy March.

Robinson, who oversees the Rutgers NJ Weather Network and helps coordinate the New Jersey Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, is available to comment at [email protected].
