A Rutgers aging expert is available to discuss announcements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that fully vaccinated people can resume certain activities and that nursing homes and long-term care facilities can reopen to visitors.

“The social isolation caused by COVID-19 has been extremely difficult for the elderly and their families. The new guidelines from the federal agencies are encouraging but contradictory. We need clarity on exactly how nursing homes can safely reopen and to whom in order to continue to protect our most vulnerable populations,” said XinQi Dong, a geriatrician and the director of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research at Rutgers University.
