Newswise — WASHINGTON, D.C., November 20, 2017 -- Acoustical waves and vibrations allow us to hear and experience the world with fuller sensory stimulation. Acoustics has applications that cover a broad spectrum of topics including anthropogenic noise in marine environments, the dangers of hospital noise, and auditory sensitivity after drinking. The Acoustical Society of America’s fall meeting this year will showcase the diversity of sound and its applications.

Acoustical presentations will take place at the New Orleans Marriott in Louisiana this month at the biannual gathering of sound scientists at the forefront of acoustics. The meeting also includes numerous workshops, focus sessions and networking events with presentations to dazzle the mind (and ears) of undergraduates and experienced professionals alike.

The 174th meeting of the Acoustical Society of America will be held Dec. 4-8, 2017, at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana. The meeting will showcase over 1,000 presentations on the acoustical applications in nature, engineering, technology, and human health. Reporters are invited to attend in person for free (see details below). Journalists may also remotely access meeting information with ASA’s World Wide Press Room, which will go live once the meeting begins, and host the latest press releases as well as lay language articles about work to be presented. Live media webcasts featuring a selection of newsworthy research will take place Tuesday, Dec 5; time and topics will be announced shortly. For descriptions of all presentations, see the ASA 2017 Program at https://asa2017fall.abstractcentral.com/planner.jsp.
