Newswise — According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. In 2014 alone, about 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer have and will be diagnosed in women. Breast cancer alone, is the second leading cause of death in women, surpassed only by lung cancer.

The good news is that breast cancer is a highly curable disease if detected and treated early.

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) is committed to reducing the number of breast cancer deaths each year and has developed a helpful tool to simplify breast cancer prevention and screening guidelines. The Smart Choices for Breast Health provides risk factors and screening recommendations, as well as information to help identify symptoms.

Dr. Larisa Korde, a breast oncology expert from SCCA, is available to discuss screening guidelines, breast health, and what women can do to lower their breast cancer risk.
