Newswise — According to the White House, the recently passed Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act pushes the Environmental Protection Agency “to protect Americans from harmful chemicals in the products that [they] buy.” Potentially dangerous chemicals found in products such as flame retardants, cleaning agents, fabrics, plastics and paint thinners could now be undergoing extensive review.

Nick Clark, CEO of Alexium International, is an industry-leading executive in the specialty chemical industry. He believes that by creating chemicals that are environmentally friendly, they can continue to serve the public without threatening long-term health. Earlier this year, he and his team helped to educate the public, manufacturers and policy makers about the existence of environmentally friendly flame retardants for various applications, and were glad to see that their efforts helped to pass the Defense Authorization Act of 2017, which directs the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps to explore environmentally friendly flame retardant uniforms.

Alexium International holds proprietary patent applications for a process developed initially by the U.S. Department of Defense, which allows for the surface modification and attachment of nanoparticles or multiple chemical functional groups to surfaces or substrates to provide functions such as fire retardancy, waterproofing, oil proofing, and antimicrobial treatments. Applications under development include but are not limited to textiles, paints, and packaging, glass and building materials. Alexium's fire retardant chemical treatments are currently marketed for different fabric markets under the Alexiflam™, Ascalon™, Nycolon™, Nuvalon™, Polytron™, Omnitron™ and Bactron™ trademarks.
