UAB clinical psychologist Josh Klapow, Ph.D., says the longer the government shutdown continues, the more furloughed workers experience psychological stress. For those forced to work without a paycheck, stress and psychological fatigue could contribute to on-the-job mistakes. "The stress is real for those not working and trying to manage finances, or for those working without pay," says Klapow. "If not addressed, we will see mistakes, illnesses, safety issues, mental health problems, even possibly suicides."

Klapow is a clinical psychologist with UAB's School of Public Health.  See more at:  https://www.uab.edu/news/experts/all-experts-category/item/1171-klapow-josh.
