Newswise — Why do some storms produce little rainfall while othersbring torrential rains that cause flooding like inLouisiana?

SJSU meteorologist Alison Bridger explains the science behind heavy rain and flooding in Louisiana.

"In Louisiana, a storm system rotated over the state for anumber of hours while heavy rain-producing thunderstormsdropped heavy rains. The main system moved slowly and theatmosphere was very moist - perfect ingredients for flooding rains. Add the impact of climate warming, andyou have all the ingredients for catastrophic flooding," said Dr. Alison Bridger.
