June 12, 2019

Newswise — Schaumburg, IL, June 12, 2019 – Continuing in its mission to immerse residents in the strategies and mechanics of scholarly publishing, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and NEUROSURGERY® Publications is excited to announce the selection of Tarek El Ahmadieh, MD as the 2019–2020 NEUROSURGERY® Publications Resident Fellow.

Dr. El Ahmadieh was selected as the Publications Resident Fellow by Editor-in-Chief Nelson M. Oyesiku, MD, PhD, FACS; CNS Resident Committee Vice Chair, Maya Babu, MD, MBA; and Publications Liaison, Brian Hoh, MD, MBA. The Publications Resident Fellow will participate in the editorial process, creative projects, and new initiatives, and will act as an ex officio liaison between the publications office and neurosurgery residents and fellows.

Dr. El Ahmadieh is currently a neurosurgery resident at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from medical school at Beirut Arab University in Beirut, Lebanon and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. During this research fellowship and under the mentorship of Dr. Bernard Bendok (Principal Investigator), Dr. El Ahmadieh was given the opportunity to take a leadership role in a multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trial that studied outcomes of two different types of aneurysm coils (HEAT trial). “This project not only taught me the basics of running a clinical trial, but it helped me improve my interpersonal skills by communicating with remarkable people from all over the country, and fueled my zeal for the academic process,” said Dr. El Ahmadieh.

“The Editorial Office is pleased to welcome Dr. El Ahmadieh as the 2019–2020 NEUROSURGERY® Publications Resident Fellow. We look forward to working with him to advance key projects, processes, and initiatives,” said Dr. Oyesiku. “To me, the Publications Resident Fellow represents an opportunity to influence the field of neurosurgery while working with a group of experts and talented colleagues. I hope to bring my perspective and journey along with my genuine interest in working with others to the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and NEUROSURGERY® Publications,” said Dr. El Ahmadieh.
