NEW YORK (September X, 2018) – Leading interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery experts from NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine will be presenting at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation’s Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) educational meeting in San Diego, CA from September 21, 2018 through September 25, 2018.
Below is a list of NewYork-Presbyterian’s noteworthy presenters as well as top experts available for comment on the most compelling research abstracts that will be presented at this year’s meeting.
Late-Breaking Clinical Trials and Keynote Interventional Studies Presenters:
Gregg Stone, M.D. –director of cardiovascular research and education at the Center of for Interventional Vascular Therapy at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and director of TCT. Known as one of the foremost clinical trialists in interventional cardiology, Dr. Stone will be presenting the following two late-breaking clinical trials:
- COAPT: A Randomized Trial of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Leaflet Approximation in Patients With Heart Failure and Secondary Mitral Regurgitation
- ABSORB IV: A Blinded Randomized Trial of a Polymeric Everolimus-Eluting Bioresorbable Scaffold in an Expanded Patient Population Using Optimized Technique

Ajay Kirtane, M.D. – director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Dr. Kirtane specializes in complex coronary and peripheral vascular interventional procedures. He is also a co-director of TCT, and will be presenting the following keynote interventional study:
- EVOLVE SHORT-DAPT: Three-Month Outcomes on Dual Antiplatelet Therapy in a High Bleeding Risk Population Treated With a Bioresorbable Polymer-Based Drug-Eluting Stent

Martin Leon, M.D. – director of the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and founder of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Dr. Leon is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in interventional cardiology. He has served as principal investigator for more than 50 clinical trials that helped shape the field of interventional cardiovascular medicine, including: STRESS, STARS, Gamma-one, SIRIUS, ENDEAVOR, and most recently, the PARTNER trial.
Leonard Girardi, M.D. – cardiothoracic surgeon-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Girardi is committed to training the next generation of cardiothoracic surgeons and teaches medical students and residents on all levels. He is a member of numerous surgical societies and has published extensively on multiple topics in cardiovascular and aneurysm surgery and has given many lectures at regional and national surgical meetings.
Virendra Patel, M.D. – chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Interventions and co-director of the Aortic Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Patel has a particular interest in clinical outcomes research and has served as principal investigator of several studies to evaluate open and minimally invasive repairs of complex aortic aneurysms. He most recently participated in the TEVAR and EVAR committees of the Vascular Quality Initiative of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
Dmitriy Feldman, M.D. – director of endovascular service of Interventional Cardiac and Endovascular Laboratory in the Division of Cardiology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Feldman specializes in angioplasty and stenting. His areas of research interest include percutaneous coronary and endovascular intervention outcomes research and he has performed extensive work with the New York State Department of Health PCI database, American College of Cardiology National Cardiovascular Data Registry, as well as the Cornell Catheterization Laboratory institutional database.
