Newswise — As oil began washing onto Louisiana shores Friday from the exploded Gulf of Mexico oil rig, questions have emerged as to how this spill will impact the ecology of the Gulf and the Gulf States.

Ron Kendall is director of The Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tech University. He can discuss the toxic effects of oil on birds, reptiles, shrimp, fish and other wildlife. He was a part of the assessment for the Exxon Valdez as well as other oil spill issues.

He is the chief editor of the new textbook, “Wildlife Toxicology: Emerging Containment and Biodiversity Issues,” which is scheduled to release on May 10 and provides a global assessment of a range of environmental stressors, including pesticides, environmental contaminants and other emerging chemical threats as well as their impact on wildlife populations.
