PitchAn internal investigation released by the Centers for Disease Control recently revealed the mishandling of anthrax and bird flu containers at the agency’s laboratory in Atlanta. Though no workers were infected with either disease, the investigation also detailed other instances where proper protocol was not followed by lab workers, dating back to 2011.

Vickie Sutton, Paul Whitfield Professor of Law at Texas Tech University School of Law and the Director for the Center for Biodefense, Law and Public Policy, is available for comment on the situation. Sutton is also the associate dean for research and faculty development at the Texas Tech School of Law.

Talking Points• The Center for Biodefense, Law and Public Policy is the only one of its kind at a law school in the United States to focus solely on the issues of law and biodefense.• Sutton also hosted the 13th Annual Global Biosecurity Symposium in April at Texas Tech.
