Newswise — Dr. Dan Pierce, University of North Carolina Asheville Associate Professor of History, is a nationally known expert on the history and culture of NASCAR. He has written widely on the topic, including encyclopedia articles and an article on "The Most Southern Sport on Earth: NASCAR and the Unions" for the Journal of Southern Culture.
He is available for comment on the announcement made earlier this week that Charlotte, N.C. was selected as the site for the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
"Charlotte is an appropriate place for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The city has deep roots in the history of the sport and has been home to many great drivers and tracks. It's the center of the stockcar racing universe," said Dr. Pierce.
