AHCPR INVITES PRESS TO CONFERENCE ON OUTCOMES RESEARCH

The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research is sponsoring a conference to discuss and identify critical gaps and future research needs regarding outcomes and effectiveness research. This research focuses on the end results of medical treatments and addresses such questions as: Which interventions work best? Does it work in the real world? Does it provide the best value? The conference also will review AHCPR's research accomplishments in this area.

The two-day conference, featuring over 15 experts, is entitled "Outcomes Research: Engine for Quality Improvement." The conference is designed for public- and private-sector health care providers, policymakers, purchasers, and health services researchers. Specific conference goals are to: (1) present selected accomplishments from previous outcomes and effectiveness research, (2) discuss contemporary challenges in outcomes research, and (3) explore the future of outcomes and effectiveness research in both the public and private sectors.

The following plenary speakers will participate: Keynote speaker: George D. Lundberg, M.D., Editor, Journal of the American Medical Association; John E. Wennberg, M.D., M.P.H., Director, Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences, Dartmouth Medical School; Edward H. Wagner, M.D., M.P.H., Director, Center for Health Studies and The W.A.
