Newswise — Northeastern alumni Alan S. McKim MBA '88 and Richard A. D'Amore '75 have established the McKim-D'Amore Distinguished Professorship of Global Management and Innovation. The $1.5 million endowment honors College of Business Administration General Management professor Daniel J. McCarthy's many career accomplishments in both industry and academia.

Upon McCarthy's retirement, the chair will be renamed the Daniel J. McCarthy Distinguished Professorship of Global Management and Innovation. The McCarthy Chair will then be conferred upon a faculty member appointed by the Provost considering recommendations from the CBA dean and a college committee. Both existing faculty members and external candidates will be eligible for the appointment. According to McCarthy, the endowed chair will bolster the College in areas "that are the strengths of the College of Business Administration: international management and technology innovation. This chair builds resources central to the future of the College."

McCarthy, who taught both McKim and D'Amore during their years at Northeastern, earned his AB and MBA degrees from Dartmouth College and a DBA from Harvard University. Professor McCarthy is a Fellow at the Davis Center for Russian Studies at Harvard University, and is one of the top two scholars internationally in business and management in Russia, based on a study of publications in leading journals from 1986-2002. In the private sector, McCarthy participated in the start-up of two small, hightech companies that quickly went public and worked as a production manager for Johnson & Johnson.

McKim, who earned his MBA from Northeastern, is chairman of the board of directors, president, and chief executive officer of Clean Harbors, Inc., which he founded in 1980. Clean Harbors (NASDAQ: CLHB) is North America's leading provider of environmental and hazardous waste management services.
