Newswise — Today marks a transformational time for Harris County, Texas residents with the public launch of Harris Health System, the new business name for the Harris County Hospital District.
The new name, Harris Health System, better represents one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in the region. Over the years, the system has strengthened its focus on primary care, prevention and wellness.

We are our region's leading integrated healthcare system and we are champions for the health of all of the people and families of Harris County. The system name applies to its 44 healthcare locations comprising three hospitals, 16 health centers, 15 homeless shelter clinics, seven school-based clinics, five mobile health units, a dialysis center, a dental center and a specialty ambulatory center.
“The transition to the name Harris Health marks an important milestone in the 46-year history of the organization. Harris Health System is much more than a name. Harris Health System is staffed by physician faculty and residents from nationally ranked medical schools, Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Last year, U.S. News & World Report named the system to its first-ever Best Regional Hospitals-Houston list. One of its hospitals, Ben Taub Hospital, has received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
Harris Health’s comprehensive electronic medical record system that connects all of its hospitals, health centers, clinics and providers has received national acclaim. The system has been named among the Most Wired Hospitals list for two consecutive years by Hospitals & Health Networks, and received national recognition from U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Harris Health also is a recipient of the prestigious National Committee for Quality Assurance designation for its network of patient-centered medical homes.
