Newswise — BALTIMORE--Alex Gorsky, chairman of the Board of Directors and chief executive officer of Johnson & Johnson, will deliver the main address at the graduation ceremony of the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. “Alex Gorsky is an accomplished leader who heads one of the largest consumer health, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies,” said Bernard T. Ferrari, dean of the Carey Business School. “We are proud to welcome him as our graduation speaker.” Alex Gorsky became chief executive officer of Johnson & Johnson in April 2012. After graduating from West Point, he spent six years as an officer in the United States Army and joined Johnson & Johnson immediately upon his retirement from the service. He was awarded a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1996. Gorsky recently received the Joseph Wharton Leadership Award and the CADCA Humanitarian of the Year Award, as well as an Honorary Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Johnson & Johnson and Alex Gorsky were both recipients of the Corporate Leadership Award for 2014 from the Thomas Manion Foundation. In the past three years Johnson & Johnson has advanced 12 places on Fortune’s Most Admired Companies list and was named one of the 50 Happiest Places to Work in America in 2014.

A longtime advocate of diversity and inclusion, Gorsky has been named one of the 100 Most Inspiring Leaders by Pharma Voice. He was also named to the Reader’s Digest List of Most Trusted Americans. Alex is a member of the Board of Directors of IBM, the Board of Directors of the Congressional Medal of Honor, and Board of Directors of the National Academy Foundation. He is a member of the Bi-Partisan Council on Health Care and is considered one of the most influential voices globally on meeting the worldwide health care challenge.
