There are now a total of 1,639 Certified Food Scientists in 878 organizations from 55 countries around the world. These include ingredient and consumer packaged goods companies, universities, consultancies, government agencies, and many more. All 16 of the 2014 Fortune 500 companies categorized as either beverage or food consumer goods companies have Certified Food Scientists on staff.

The CFS program acknowledges the applied skills of food scientists, complements both academic and work experience, and ultimately, helps demonstrate the professions’ commitment to safe, nutritious and plentiful food for consumers. In order to obtain a CFS, a candidate must meet the eligibility requirements and take an exam comprised of 120 multiple choice questions covering eight food science content areas.

The next CFS examination window will be held May 4th to May 28th, 2015. The application deadline is April 27th, 2015. For more information about the CFS exam, please visit ift.org/certification or email [email protected].
