Newswise — CHICAGO – Feeding Tomorrow, the foundation of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), today announced that Kraft Foods Group will donate $100,000 to Feeding Tomorrow to endow two new annual $1,000 scholarships. These educational scholarships also include a paid internship at a Kraft location and a trip to attend the IFT summer event.
“Within the next 35 years, there are going to be over nine billion people in the world to feed, and the next generation will meet this challenge based on scientific innovation,” said Feeding Tomorrow Chair Noel Anderson, PhD, CFS. “Supporting students pursuing a food science-based career is key to finding solutions to a healthier, safer, and better nourished planet.”

The new Kraft Foods Research Scholarships/Internships is open to U.S. students studying one of the following areas: food science, nutrition, agricultural engineering, biochemistry, chemical engineering, dairy science, food chemistry, food engineering, food packaging, non-thermal processing or related discipline. Applicants will need to meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled as a full-time student at an IFT-approved undergraduate program• Have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA• Demonstrate exceptional leadership experience• Be a member of the IFT Student Association (IFTSA) at the time of application
A joint jury of IFT members and Kraft-designated jurors will evaluate the applications. The top three finalists will be interviewed for final selection. Applications will be available starting August 15th, and will be due October 1st. The scholarship recipient will also have the opportunity to intern at Kraft Foods Group in the summer of 2015. The internship will pay a weekly salary and offer subsidized housing. The location of the internship assignment will depend on Kraft’s needs. Potential internship locations include Glenview, IL, Tarrytown, NY, or Madison, WI.
Kraft also sponsors Feeding Tomorrow’s Evan Turek Memorial Scholarship and Kraft Foods Internship, which is awarded to an undergraduate in food science who embodies the scientific and leadership characteristics of Evan Turek, an exceptional mentor who was dedicated to helping shape the next generation of food science scientists and developing leaders in the field. Kraft has sponsored the Evan Turek Memorial Scholarship and Internship since its inception four years ago.
