Newswise — In an affirmation of the school’s leadership, academic rigor, and commitment to cutting-edge programs, the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) was named the Most Innovative Nursing Graduate Program in the U.S. by Best Master of Science in Nursing Degrees.
The organization, dedicated to helping students make the best decisions about their nursing education, cited Johns Hopkins as the #1 institute in innovation for its groundbreaking teaching methods, quality of facilities, and range of master’s degrees. The assessment used statistics from U.S. News & World Report rankings, nursing information hubs, and evaluations of each university.
The JHSON has long held its reputation as a leader in education, research, and practice and continually stands as one of the top accredited nursing schools in the country. The new ranking noted the school’s National League for Nursing Center of Excellence designation, which recognizes its pursuit and application of innovation and excellence, and highlighted the JHSON for its interprofessional collaboration that is especially beneficial to students who eventually want to teach.
One example of innovation is the curriculum of the school’s recently launched Master’s Entry into Nursing program (MEN). Unlike other MEN programs, this curriculum emphasizes global impact, quality and safety, evidence-based interdisciplinary education, and cultural competency. “While the Master’s Entry into Nursing program isn’t new to nursing, our curriculum is,” says Kathleen White, PhD, RN, FAAN, associate professor and director of the program. “Beyond the traditional nursing basics, our curriculum focuses on cultural humility, health disparities, ethics, interprofessional teamwork, quality improvement, safety in the healthcare setting, evidence-based practice, and the understanding of varying healthcare delivery methods whether in the hospital or the community.
“Students will be ready to deliver and coordinate day-to-day care for patients and their families, but with an understanding of how nursing practice is impacted by policy, informatics, genetics and the role of population health on nursing practice.”
In addition, the School of Nursing is located within an extraordinary four-block radius including the top-ranked Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the internationally renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital.
