Newswise — DAMIEN VAN PUYVELDE (Ph. D., MSc. Econ., Aberystwyth University, M1, Sciences-Po Strasbourg) specializes in defense and security issues. He is the Associate Director for Research of The National Security Studies Institute. Before joining the Institute, he was a Research Assistant at the Centre for Intelligence and International Security Studies (CIISS) at Aberystwyth University, and Assistant Editor for the journal Intelligence and National Security. From 2012 to 2014, he was co-editor of H-Intel, a discussion network on Intelligence History and Studies.

His main research and teaching interests are in the fields of Intelligence and Security Studies, with a focus on issues of democratic accountability and interagency coordination. Dr. Van Puyvelde has published articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Democracy and Security, Intelligence and National Security, La Revue Internationale et Stratégique, and Sécurité et Stratégie, and opinion pieces in The Conversation, The National Interest, NATO Review, and La Libre Belgique. He is currently working on a book titled The U.S. Intelligence Community and the Private Sector, and recently started helping the International Spy Museum to prepare its next exhibition.
