Newswise — CLERMONT, Fla. (January 7, 2016) — South Lake Hospital, in affiliation with Orlando Health, has added a new collaborative cancer center to its growing medical campus. Set to open January 11, 2016, the new center, which will provide radiation oncology services, will be managed by UF Health Cancer Center - Orlando Health and Integrated Oncology Network (ION) and give patients in and around Lake County local access to the cancer center specialists, vast resources, leading-edge treatments and ongoing medical trials.

“South Lake Hospital is pleased to partner with these experts in cancer treatments,” said South Lake Hospital President John Moore. “This collaboration with ION and UF Health Cancer Center - Orlando Health delivers on our ongoing commitment to provide the very best medical care to Lake County.”

The 4,800 square-foot practice will be staffed by UF Health Cancer Center-Orlando Health radiation oncologists and an advanced nursing team, providing comprehensive cancer care.

“A cancer diagnosis is a life-changing event and we know how important it is to patients to receive their cancer treatment close to home,” said Mark Roh, MD, President, UF Health Cancer Center – Orlando Health. “Now patients in Lake County can get the best care available right in their own backyard.”

The center’s technology - provided by ION - will offer breakthrough technologies, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). IMRT is the most technologically advanced and most precise method of external beam radiation therapy available. IGRT takes this technology one step further. Daily imaging assures the radiation is delivered precisely to the treatment area while sparing surrounding tissue. Treatment may be able to be delivered in as few as 1 to 5 treatments. These advanced radiation technologies provide cancer treatment more precisely, with less risk, and are beneficial for many different types of cancer.

“ION has been focused on expanding our networks across the United States of more than 250 multispecialty oncology-focused physicians to affiliate with larger providers and healthcare systems in their market to provide quality and cost-efficient patient care. ION is honored to broaden our network with South Lake Hospital,” said Jeffrey Goffman, ION’s CEO and co-founder. “The South Lake Hospital relationship demonstrates our focus to affiliate and partner with leading hospitals, while maintaining our comprehensive physician network. We will continue to seek such prestigious hospital relationships in all of our markets.”

The Center will be located at 1361 Citrus Tower Boulevard, Clermont. For more infor-mation or to schedule an appointment, call 352-536-8791.
