Newswise — March is National Nutrition Month®, an annual effort by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to help Americans eat more healthfully. This year’s theme is ‘Savor the Flavor of Eating Right.’ Along those lines, Linda Bobroff, a UF/IFAS professor and Extension nutrition specialist, said meal planning, food preparation, enjoying family meals and participating in school food programs play daily roles in helping Americans eat for pleasure and health. Bobroff recently launched an online course aimed at teaching people to live healthy lives, including making healthy food choices that may lessen their chances of getting certain cancers. You can enroll at www.tinyurl.com/TakeControlUF. Karla Shelnutt, a UF/IFAS associate professor and Extension nutrition specialist, coordinates Florida’s Family Nutrition Program (FNP), aimed at teaching people with limited resources better food and physical activity habits to reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease. FNP also works with communities to make the healthy choice the easy choice through policy, systems and environmental changes. FNP programs are in 48 counties in Florida ( www.uffnp.org).
