Newswise — Chicago (March 29, 2016): The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) awarded Niesha L. Griffith, MS RPh FASHP, the 2016 Award of Excellence at the 12th HOPA Annual Conference on March 17 in Atlanta. This prestigious award recognizes a member who has made a significant, sustained contribution to or provided excellent leadership in improving or supporting hematology/oncology pharmacy. The award was created to honor Phil Johnson from the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, who graciously allowed HOPA to adopt the Making a Difference in Oncology Conference as the HOPA Annual Conference.

Ms. Griffith currently serves as Administrator of Oncology Pharmacy and Infusion Services for the James Cancer Hospital and Director of the Pharmacy Administration Residency Program at the OSU Medical Center. Ms. Griffith lectures regularly and has published in the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, Formulary, Hospital Pharmacy, and the Journal of Oncology Practice.

In her nomination, Griffith is described by colleagues as, “A visionary leader having served the profession with passion, bringing excellence and inspiration to hematology/oncology pharmacy services, patient advocacy initiatives and pharmacist training programs.”

Additionally, she holds an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor at the OSU College of Pharmacy and is involved with teaching and coordinating a course for the Health-System Pharmacy Administration graduate students. Griffith has greatly impacted HOPA as an organization - she is Past President of HOPA and also served as Health Policy Chair and Board Member at Large.

Ms. Griffith is responsible for improving pharmaceutical care for patients of the James including management of six outpatient chemotherapy infusion pharmacies, a Phase I unit, inpatient and outpatient clinical pharmacy services, anticoagulation services, pain and palliative medicine pharmacy services, and the institutions’ Medication Assistance Program.

She graduated from the OSU College of Pharmacy after completing the combined MS Hospital Pharmacy Administration/Residency Program. She previously earned her BS Pharmacy degree from West Virginia University.

HOPA

HOPA is a nonprofit professional organization formed in 2004 to help oncology and hematology pharmacy practitioners and their associates provide the best possible cancer care. HOPA supports research, conducts educational conferences to advance knowledge, encourages professional development and advocates for health policy issues that improve patient care. HOPA has more than 2,500 members and includes oncology pharmacists, as well as pharmacy administrators, researchers, residents, interns and technicians specializing in hematology/oncology practice.
