Newswise — On the heels of its No. 1 ranking by U.S. News & World Report, the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) has been ranked the No. 2 nursing school in the world by QS World University. “This is another exciting ranking and positive reflection of our leadership, innovation, and depth as a school,” says Dean Patricia Davidson, PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN. “We are proud that our education, research, and practice cover a multitude of growing nursing interests and span borders both locally and globally.” As part of the QS World University rankings, more than 100 nursing schools were ranked based on data around academic/employer reputation and research citations and impact. The JHSON, earning high marks in all categories, maintains 32 collaborative initiatives in 19 countries and recently launched the first U.S. DNP cohort in Saudi Arabia. The school also receives approximately $32 million in NIH and federal research grant funding, more than double any other school of nursing in the U.S. At the JHSON, areas of research excellence include aging, HIV/AIDS, intimate partner violence, patient safety, palliative care, and more. Other highlights from the past year include the doubling of enrollment of the school’s PhD program and the launching of the MSN: Entry into Nursing program which emphasizes leadership, global impact, and interprofessional education. “What makes these rankings important is the focus on output,” says Davidson. “Our impact as a school comes not from the number, but the researchers and students who embrace innovation, the learning opportunities that cover the globe, and the faculty who develop and expand our curriculum to meet the growing demands of the profession locally and globally.” The school’s MSN program was also recently ranked No. 2 in the country by Healthcare Management Degree Guide for its clinical nurse specialist and health systems management tracks.
