Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Holds Inaugural Master’s Degree Commencement Ceremony

Pulitzer, Polk and Peabody Award-Winning Science Journalist and Global Health Expert Laurie Ann Garrett to Receive Honorary Degree and Deliver Keynote Address

Newswise — The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai will honor emerging health and science pioneers from its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at its inaugural master’s degree commencement ceremony to be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center, Manhattan.

Laurie Ann Garrett, a Senior Fellow in Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations and an award-winning science journalist formerly with Newsday and NPR, will deliver the Keynote Address and will also receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Degree. Ms. Garrett is the only writer ever to have been awarded all three of journalism’s most prestigious awards: the Peabody, the Polk, and the Pulitzer.

This year’s commencement reflects Mount Sinai’s commitment to excellence in distinguished education of the next generation of scientists and health professionals who are making a profound impact on human health, locally and globally.

A total of 160 graduate students will be graduating in the Class of 2016 with master’s degrees in areas including Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Research, Biostatistics, Genetic Counseling, and Health Care Delivery Leadership.
