Newswise — EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University will soon begin a search for the next dean of the School of Education and Social Policy (SESP).
This individual will succeed Dean Penelope Peterson, who is retiring from Northwestern on Aug. 31, 2017. Peterson has been dean of SESP since 1997 and is currently Northwestern’s longest-serving dean as well as the longest-serving dean in the history of the School of Education and Social Policy.
The search committee will be chaired by Carol Lee, the Edwina S. Tarry Professor of Education and Social Policy, and will include representatives from the faculty, students, staff and alumni. The search committee will work through the summer and fall to identify a slate of candidates for the deanship. Nominations are now being solicited.
Known as “the small school that thinks big,” Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy was the first university in the country to have distinctive undergraduate majors, all focused on improving human lives. Both the school’s doctoral programs -- Learning Sciences and Human Development and Social Policy -- were the first of their kind in the nation.Search committee members are: • Carol Lee, chair of search committee; Edwina S.
