Newswise — PARK RIDGE, ILLINOIS – Christina Kloepping, BSN, RN, is honored with the 2016 AANA Foundation Advocate of the Year Award during the Annual Congress of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), September 9-13, 2016, in Washington, D.C.

The Advocate of the Year Award is presented to an AANA Foundation Advocate for outstanding commitment to the nurse anesthesia profession through individually supporting the AANA Foundation and encouraging others to do the same. Advocates are volunteers who represent, support and promote the efforts and activities of the AANA Foundation at the state level both philosophically and financially.

Kloepping is the first student to receive this prestigious award. “I am both honored and very humbled by my selection for advocate of the year,” she said in receiving the award. “I hope to continue supporting the AANA Foundation in any way I can as I start my career as a CRNA."

A student at Rosalind Franklin University, Kloepping helped initiate the inaugural student advocate program launched in 2015. Kloepping also raised $1,700 for the AANA Foundation at a Wisconsin Association of Nurse Anesthetists’ meeting.

She began her career as an emergency medical technician, then became a nurse in the ER and ICU, and then entered the profession of nurse anesthesia. Currently, Kloepping is a staff nurse anesthetist with the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn.
