Newswise — Singapore, 22 September 2016 - The National University of Singapore (NUS) has climbed two notches to the 24th spot in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2016-2017, achieving its best performance in the rankings to date. It is also the top Asian university for the second year running in the annual rankings, and the only Asian university that joined the world’s top 25 this year.
This year, THE has published an expanded World University Rankings comprising a list of top 980 universities from 79 countries, which represents about 5 per cent of the world’s higher education institutions. This includes 289 Asian universities from 24 countries, and of which 19 Asian universities are in the top 200 of the rankings. It employs 13 calibrated performance indicators to reflect a university’s strengths in five areas that represent the core missions of research intensive universities: Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook and Industry Income.
