Newswise — AUSTIN, Texas — The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin is honoring four distinguished alumni at its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include Sanford L. Gottesman, BBA ’73; Joe E. Holt, BBA ’71; Wm. Eugene Powell, BBA ’68, MBA ’70; and Jeffrey L. Swope, BBA ’72, MBA ’74.

2016 McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame Inductees:

Sanford L. Gottesman received his undergraduate degree in 1973 from the McCombs School. Gottesman began his career in real estate as a leasing agent before starting the Gottesman Company in 1992, where he continues to serve as the president. Gottesman has served in leadership positions for local non-profits and contributed work to many Austin projects, including the restoration of city landmarks such as the 300 block of Congress and The Arboretum.

Joe E. Holt received his undergraduate degree in finance from UT Austin’s McCombs School in 1971. He is currently the managing director and vice chairman of commercial banking for JP Morgan Chase. Holt is actively involved within the university and Austin community, holding a number of executive board positions, such as chair of the Board of Trustees of the McCombs School of Business Foundation. He has also dedicated time serving on the executive board of the Capitol Area Council of Boy Scouts of America and the board of the American Heart Association.

Wm. Eugene Powell received his undergraduate degree in 1968 and an MBA in 1970, both from the McCombs School. During his time at UT Austin, Powell played football on a four-year athletic scholarship under Coach Darrell K. Royal. He is the CEO and co-founder of San Antonio’s leading real estate developer, Bitterblue, Inc., and CEO and founder of The Powell Company, a commercial real estate brokerage firm, also in San Antonio. In addition, Powell co-founded five software and healthcare support companies and has served on the executive boards of various non-profits.

Jeffrey L. Swope received his undergraduate degree in 1972 and an MBA in 1974, both from the McCombs School. Swope is the founder and managing partner of commercial real estate investment firm Champion Partners Ltd. In addition to various other leadership positions, Swope is a member of the Chancellor’s Executive Council, Longhorn Foundation, and Ethics at McCombs Advisory Council. A few of his professional achievements include being the founding chairman of the Real Estate Council, trustee of the Urban Land Institute, and a Hall of Fame member of the Dallas Board of Commercial Realtors.

The McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame was established in 1983 to honor former students, faculty, and dedicated supporters. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor given by the McCombs School. These individuals have made outstanding contributions to the business community and advanced humanity through their outstanding civic, philanthropic, and educational work.

Inductees are nominated by a selection committee of board leaders, faculty members from each of the school’s departments, and the dean.

The McCombs School is also honoring 2015-2016 Rising Star Award recipients during the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. This year’s Rising Stars are Ashish K. Gupta, BBA ’00, and T. Mark Whatley, MBA ’04. Individuals receiving this award are young alumni who have shown exemplary professional success and dedicated service to the McCombs Alumni Network and are selected by the McCombs School’s undergraduate and graduate advisory boards.
