Newswise — Chicago (Oct. 20, 2016): The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) has awarded Dr. Pamela S. Hinds, PhD RN FAAN with the first ever Dr. Nancy E. Kline Mentoring Award. This award was presented to Hinds at the 40th Annual APHON Conference and Exhibit, on September 30 in Indianapolis, IN.

Hinds is a nurse scientist whose leadership, dedication, mentorship and friendship is parallel to that of Dr. Nancy E. Kline. Additionally, she’s been actively involved in APHON for several years and played an integral role in the development of the first Certified Oncology Nurse program.

“Dr. Pam Hinds is the perfect choice to receive the first ever Dr. Nancy E. Kline Mentoring Award. Pam has been an inspiration and mentor to so many of us within APHON. Nancy would have been so excited to honor her friend and mentor in this way” described APHON Past President Deborah Echtenkamp.

APHON Treasurer, Joan O’Hanlon Curry also shared her thoughts on Hinds achievement by stating, “Dr. Hinds is regarded as a pioneer in the pediatric hematology/oncology nursing discipline. She was an incredible mentor throughout Nancy’s career. It is absolutely fitting that Pam be the first recipient of this award. Nancy would be thrilled.”
