Newswise — October 28, 2016 – The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the Toronto Police Service has come on board to support breast cancer research at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The Toronto Police Service has been fundraising by selling and wearing pink epaulettes on their uniforms. The epaulettes purchased by Toronto Police officers include their badge number and ranking. “This is an excellent and extremely important campaign. We are very pleased to support it,” said Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders.

On Monday October 31st, we’ll meet Arthur Hanton, who with no direct connection to breast cancer, started this campaign along with the involvement of other security and medical services in the GTA. The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation will announce the total amount raised for Breastober, benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at Police Headquarters at 11:30 a.m. in the media gallery.

“BREASTOBER is a great opportunity to highlight our world class breast cancer research, clinical and restoration programs. The support of the Toronto Police Services has really added a spotlight to this new awareness and fundraising campaign,” commented Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

In addition to the terrific support from Toronto Police, other organizations have also joined the campaign. The Princess Margaret would like to thank Paragon Security, University Health Network Security, all the Ontario Correctional institutes (including Vanier Centre for Women, Toronto South Detention Centre, Ontario Correctional Institute, Central East Correctional Centre, Central North Correctional Centre, Toronto East Detention Centre), as well as the Toronto Paramedic Services for their tremendous support throughout this campaign.

BREASTOBER is a new initiative at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation to promote awareness and fundraising for the Breast Cancer Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Breast cancer affects women and it affects men – but it most of all affects our families, our friends and our colleagues – every life matters.

One in 9 women in Canada will learn they have breast cancer in their lifetime. One in 9 will be treated at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The Breast Cancer Research Program at the Cancer Centre includes innovative and ground breaking research, the Gattuso Rapid Diagnostic Program, the Breast Reconstruction Program and the Survivorship Program. Additionally, we run nutritional seminars at our Ellicsr location.

Through early detection and intervention, women and men with breast cancer are living longer and healthier lives after diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Your support is meaningful and it is making a difference.
