Susan Brooks (R-IN05) met with pharmacists working in a new controlled substances pharmacy recently opened in Indianapolis by Cordant Health Solutions (cordantsolutions.com ). The Cordant pharmacy dispenses all of the most commonly prescribed drugs for pain and ADHD, as well as other controlled substances and medications that are often prescribed in the treatment of patients with chronic pain, and has significantly more controls in place to reduce the risk for abuse or diversion.
“Americans consume 80 percent of the world’s opioids, but represent just five percent of the global population,” said Brooks. “Over-prescription of opioids and other controlled substances is a problem. In order to solve it, we need to increase awareness about the problem among prescribers and find creative solutions, like this controlled substances pharmacy, to help prescribers better monitor treatment compliance and prevent drug misuse and diversion.
