October 9, 2018 – Vancouver, B.C. – As we approach 2020, TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre, is pleased to launch its new Five-Year Plan 2020-2025, developed with extensive internal and external community consultation.

TRIUMF’s core operations revolve around a five-year planning cycle. This is articulated in a Five-Year Plan, a blueprint that defines TRIUMF’s vision and mission, communicates the lab’s goals and strategies, and lays out an action plan for the specified planning cycle and beyond.

“For five decades, TRIUMF has delivered discovery, innovation, and impact. We have a proven track record of improving the lives of Canadians and building a better world,” said Dr. Jonathan Bagger, TRIUMF Director. “This plan builds on our legacy and propels us towards our future—not just for the next five years but for years and decades to come.”

Today, as Canada’s particle accelerator centre, TRIUMF is poised to enter one of the most exciting and transformative eras in its history. “Collectively, we have created, and are continuing to strengthen, a diverse and inclusive hub that transcends boundaries and fosters intersections of people, ideas, perspectives, disciplines, and sectors, all collaborating in the pursuit of world-class science,” said Dr. Digvir Jayas, Chair of TRIUMF’s Board of Management and Vice-President (Research and International), University of Manitoba. “Fifty years into TRIUMF’s story, I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished so far and excited about the next chapter in our story.”

TRIUMF’s Five-Year Plan 2020-2025 required hard choices to be made, but the final result is ambitious, achievable, and fully consistent with the lab’s vision, mission, and values. It leverages past investments by government and builds on the laboratory’s strong brand and global network to deliver a new level of top-tier science, training, and innovation to Canada for decades to come.

The new plan is a launchpad, laying out a vision for TRIUMF for the future. It is designed to maximize impact, build on existing strengths, and capitalize on emerging opportunities. To achieve these objectives, the plan invests in three critical dimensions:

Moreover, TRIUMF’s plan is firmly grounded in the launch and convergence of three new platforms:

Together, these platforms will transform TRIUMF into a global multidisciplinary hub, anchored by world-leading isotope science and ignited by the creative and innovative spirits of talented Canadians.
