Newswise — LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, OCTOBER 2018 – Bakman Technologies LLC., is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $724,000 Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) to continue the development of a low-cost, high-performance, UAV mounted Terahertz (THz) spectrometer. Completing the Phase I portion of the NSF grant earlier this year, Bakman has taken the first steps towards realizing a sensor platform capable of performing point detection of pollutants or other gases of atmospheric importance.

Bakman’s portable, turn-key, frequency domain THZ spectrometers are sold worldwide and have been used for multiple applications. This NSF funding will aid in the production of a new class of instruments that are smaller, lighter, more cost effective and more sensitive. They will be available in a range of performance levels to suit various markets.

WATCH  THz Takes Flight, July 2016

This video shows the very first flight of a drone mounted Bakman Technologies PB7220-2000 Frequency Domain THz Spectrometer. On its eight minute maiden flight, the THz Drone performed spectroscopic scans from 1.0 to 1.5 THz and measured the presence and concentration of atmospheric water vapor 10 meters above the ground. The video details how this technology may be used to combat air pollution and climate change.
