Seattle (November 19, 2018) – Todd A. Mahr, MD, LaCrosse, WI, was installed as president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) at the ACAAI Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston on November 19. J. Allen Meadows, MD, Montgomery, AL, was elected ACAAI president-elect.

Other newly elected ACAAI officers are Luz Fonacier, MD, Mineola, NY, vice president and Kathleen May, MD, Augusta, GA, treasurer. Regents elected for three-year terms include: Kelly Maples, MD, Norfolk, VA; Melinda Rathkopf, MD, Anchorage, AK; and Michael Rupp, MD, Las Cruces, NM.

Dr. Todd A. Mahr has been in a large group practice in Wisconsin for almost 30 years. He is director, pediatric allergy and clinical immunology at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He is also adjunct clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. He received his medical degree from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Mahr is board certified in allergy and immunology and pediatrics.

Dr. Mahr serves on the ACAAI Board of Regents, the Executive Committee, the Budget and Finance Committee, the Education Council, the International Committee and the Abstract Review Subcommittee. In 2017-18, Dr. Mahr chaired the ACAAI Annual Meeting Program Committee.

Dr. Mahr has been active in the American Academy of Pediatrics, serving on various committees, as faculty at their annual meeting and conducting Practical Pediatrics courses. He is active in the American Lung Association, currently serving as Chair of the Upper Midwest Regional Board. His special interests include all aspects of pediatric allergy and immunology.

Dr. J. Allen Meadows is a clinical instructor of family practice at the Montgomery Family Medicine Residency Program, a clinical instructor at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a solo community-based practitioner at the Alabama Allergy & Asthma Clinic in Montgomery, Alabama. He received his medical degree at the University of South Carolina, and completed his residency in Mobile, AL. He finished his adult and pediatric allergy fellowship in Denver, CO at the National Jewish Center, a national referral center for respiratory problems.

In addition to his work on the Advocacy Council of ACAAI, Dr. Meadows serves on the ACAAI Budget and Finance Committee, the Board of Regents, the Foundation Board and the Executive Committee.

Dr. Meadows is active in in his community- and believes that by taking a proactive stand on medical issues he will better serve his patients' needs. He has been heavily involved in advocacy, especially in-person, throughout his career.
