Newswise — Howey in the Hills, FL…February 1, 2018.  The conference brings together internationally recognized clinicians, scientists and educators who will share their research and clinical insights into the understanding, diagnosis and management of chronic diseases that are rising at an unprecedented rate throughout the US and internationally.

Shalesh Kaushal MD, PhD, an internationally known retina specialist and biochemist, originally conceived this meeting about five years to create awareness for both the curious lay person, physicians and other healthcare providers.

As the director of meeting, he shared, “My vision is to assemble outstanding scientists and clinicians whose work have deepened our understanding and treatment of chronic diseases”. He continues, “The first meeting was an intriguing experiment itself. It brought together basic scientists and clinicians who don’t normally meet. This is what is needed in order to advance science and medicine.  The enthusiastic response by the attendees and the speakers spurred us to doing the “Can Chronic Diseases be Reversed (CCDBR)?” Conference regularly”.

This year’s fourteen speakers continue in the tradition of this conference. One of the featured speakers, Nathan S. Bryan, Ph.D., Baylor College of Medicine and the leading global expert in nitric oxide biochemistry and physiology said will explain and describe how chronic disease is caused by loss of the production of nitric oxide.  “Most if not all chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease (the number one killer of men and women worldwide) are characterized and associated with loss of nitric oxide production.  Understanding how to recognize loss of NO in your patients and then being able to confidently make recommendations that will restore their NO production will change the face of health care and lead to better treatment of chronic disease.  Chronic disease cannot and will not be cured, treated or prevented without first correcting nitric oxide production, said Dr. Bryan.”

Another of the speakers who is returning again is Professor Alessio Fasano, MD of Harvard Medical School, Alessio Fasano, MD. His work has provided the biochemical basis of “leaky gut” and its role in chronic diseases. He states, “I’m delighted to again participate in this important meeting of distinguished scientists and clinicians. This conference is both unique and timely”.

David Sabatini MD, PhD is a first-time speaker. He is Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a member of the Whitehead Institute, and Investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He has done important work in understanding the biochemical pathways involved with chronic diseases. “As a basic scientist, I’m seeking to understand fundamental biochemical pathways that are at the root of chronic diseases”, he states. He offers, “The annual CCDBR conference brings together a unusually talented people who have so much insight and experience to share. It is an honor to speak at this conference”.

The Third Annual Meeting of the Reversal of Chronic Diseases Conference brings together the leading innovators in basic science with leading physicians in their respective fields is how we bring about positive change in our healthcare system and the practice of medicine.
